Recovery in the Woods (RitW)

According to the CDC, approximately 1 in 7 Americans age 12 or older report struggling with a substance use disorder (SUD). This is a chronic, yet treatable disease that can affect anyone. Yet for some reason, we often find that society as a whole treats people differently when they struggle with SUD versus, say, cancer or heart disease. We believe that recovery is possible for everyone and we all have a right to choose the path that works best for us. RitW is invested in this work because we know what it’s like to experience these challenges and support is crucial. Nobody should ever have to walk this journey alone and that is where we come in.

We would be honored to walk alongside you on your recovery journey. Every member of our staff identifies as Peers with a lived experience in several different types of recovery. Honestly, we have been there in our personal lives. We have supported loved ones with challenges. We will use our experiences to relate to you and provide support wherever you may find yourself. There are many paths to recovery. Our mission is to support you along the one you choose.

We know that mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and other addiction struggles often go hand-in-hand. Our goal is to help you navigate these waters. We do this by providing the following, all free of charge:

Recovery in the Woods is proud to be a MARCO-Certified Recovery Community Organization.

Virtual Session Guidelines

  1. Keep it Here - What we share here, stays here. We expect that everyone who joins will respect the confidentiality of others.

  2. One at a Time - One speaker at a time will share, without interruptions or side conversations. This helps foster a calm and productive environment.

  3. It’s Up to You - Nobody is required to share anything that they don’t want to.

  4. Safe for All - Everyone is welcome no matter their race, culture, gender expression, sexual orientation, or experience with the justice system.

  5. Differing Viewpoints - Everyone is entitled to their own point of view and will be expected to express those views in a respectful way.

  6. Share the Air - All who wish to share will have an opportunity to do so. No single person should monopolize our time together.

  7. Use “I” Language - Share things in the context of your own experiences.

  8. Supporting, not “Fixing” - We are here to support, not “fix” one another. These sessions are not for crisis support. If you are in crisis or in need of one-on-one support, let us know and we will be happy to help you find some resources that may be a better fit.

  9. Healthy Boundaries - RitW Staff are not permitted to have relationships with participants outside of the RitW sessions.

  10. Respect Recovery - Please refrain from smoking, vaping, or using any mind-altering chemicals while participating live on RitW sessions. We are here to support one another in all walks of recovery and need to be mindful of those choosing complete abstinence.
