What to Expect When You Join VPSN

VPSN is a welcoming online space where people connect, share experiences, and support one another. Peer specialists help guide conversations and activities throughout the day, but the space is shaped by the people who join.

Some people come to talk and connect with others. Others prefer to listen and take things in quietly. Both are completely welcome.

You can join at any time during operating hours and stay as long as you like, and participate in whatever way feels most comfortable.

VPSN is built on the belief that everyone deserves a space where they can be heard without judgment.

VPSN Community Guidelines

VPSN works best when everyone helps create a respectful and supportive environment. These guidelines help ensure that the space remains welcoming for all participants.

  1. Keep it here: What is said here stays here. This is the essential principle of confidentiality and MUST be respected by all.

  2. Respectful conversations: Each person that wants to share, must be given the opportunity to do so free from interruption and side conversations. Additionally, no one person should monopolize the group’s time.

  3. Use “I” language: Always put things in the context of your own experiences. Remember that everyone is entitled to their own point of view and differences of opinion are to be respected, not ridiculed.

  4. Safe for ALL: This is a safe space for all identities. We accept all cultural, linguistic, social, and racial differences as well as all gender expressions and sexual orientations. It is the responsibility of all participants to make the discussion group a safe place to share, so please be mindful of treating others with respect, kindness, and compassion.

  5. Supporting, not “fixing”: We are here to support one another, not “fix” one another. Our facilitators are not trained for crisis situations. If you are in crisis, or in need of one-on-one support instead of group support, let us know and we can give you some resources.

  6. Managing stressors: While VPSN staff and participants make every effort to avoid topics of conversation that could be stressful to a wide range of people, it is impossible to avoid all stressors due to every person’s unique experiences. Please advocate for yourself when necessary by taking responsibility for your own emotional health. Please utilize coping mechanisms including stepping away from the group when you need it.

  7. Healthy boundaries: VPSN staff are not allowed to develop relationships with participants outside of VPSN sessions.

  8. Respect recovery: Please refrain from smoking, vaping, or using any mind altering chemicals while participating live on VPSN. We are here to support one another in all walks of recovery and need to be mindful of those choosing complete abstinence.
